In this tutorial, we will show you how to monitor the temperature of a hard drive in Linux. To do this, you need first to install the hddtemp command.



Get Started

  • RPM-Based Distribution


For an RPM-based distribution, launch the terminal as root and run this command:

   yum install hddtemp

  • Debian-Based Distribution


For a Debian-based distribution, launch the terminal as root and run this command:

    sudo apt-get install hddtemp

To check your hard drive temperature, open the terminal as root and run this command:

    hddtemp /dev/sda

Here is an example:

    > hddtemp /dev/sda
    /dev/sda: Maxtor 6L300S0: 29°C
